Guest_62 : to go back 100 plus years to try to prove something now is a bit of a stretch in my humble opinion. Look at our own contry and slavery, we have come along way since then.
Guest_62 : I think all churches have some things in their past they are not proud of, the lynching of Blacks in the south, the Inquistion, the Jim Jones of the world, The Kansas Baptists that hate homosexuals, they all are an embarassment to those that try to do what is right
Guest_62 : not msny mormons where i came from, maybe as i live here longer I will see the reasons for the anamosity i read here
Guest_62 : i find this area and most of the people very friendly and its a wonderful place to live
Guest_62 : i didnt really realize how much hate there is towards mormons till i moved here.
Guest_62 : looks like the crazies were out in force tonight
Guest_3265 : Governor Boggs was from Missouri.
Guest_3265 : 2222, you asked whether Rockwell's assassination attempt was on the gov of Illinois or Missouri...Gover nor Ford was the gov of Ill. at the time and a chapter of Beadle's book was given over to his account of the Mormons at Nauvoo.
Guest_3265 : "Life in Utah" may still be downloadable on the internet. Great stuff from someone who experienced Mormonism firsthand under Brigham Y.
Guest_3265 : It was John D. Lee who told about Bishop Warren Snow and the violence he committed and how Snow was praised by Brig Young for his actions in the face of a young man's contempt for priesthood authority.
Guest_2222 : The Life and confessions of John D lee (of Mountain Meadow Massacre) 1877 edition, will give you a warm fuzzy
Guest_2135 : gotta go, enjoyed the discussion
Guest_3265 : You should go on Leno.
Guest_2135 : i thought the same about my In-laws
Guest_3265 : At first it was favorable script but after living amongst them for a few years his writings took on a different tone.
Guest_3265 : J.H. Beadle, a midwestern journalist came west with Mormon pioneers and wrote extensively about the Mormons.
Guest_2135 : my mistake
Guest_2135 : well thanks, I thought you knew what you were talking about
Guest_2135 : ohhh ok
Guest_3265 : Sorry I can't give you any names. The church didn't chronicle any of those nefarious deeds and witnesses didn't talk much.
Guest_2135 : you keep drifting, we were talking about Rockwell and all those he killed,
Guest_3265 : Maybe, but not nearly as deadly as it was in the Mountain Meadow days. "Under the Banner of Heaven" tells a gruesome story about the Lafferty brothers who practiced a little blood atonement in our recent past.
Guest_2222 : I don't know about joining 2135 but, they didn't take kindly to "others". somewhat like it is in Mormon country today
Guest_2135 : dont want a link i just wanted a name. You seem to be familiar with him
Guest_3265 : Written by a non-Mormon who graduated IFHS in 1965.
Guest_3265 : «link» Great site to explore Mormon history.
Guest_2135 : hen you should be able to look up a name
Guest_2135 : thats nice
Guest_3265 : Sorry I had company at the door. J.H. Beadle wrote a book (published 1870) "Life in Utah" which documents much of the violence I mentioned.
Guest_2222 : did she assasinate the govenor of Illinois or was that Missouri
